This Thursday I’m going to be joining the Citizen’s Kazoo Orchestra, Mark Thomas, Billy Bragg and legendary guitar maestro John Gomm in part two of a protest against Camden’s Draconian attempts to licence busking and kill its street culture. If you’re reading this, I’d love you to come join us! We’re meeting for initial kazoo practice at 11:30am, outside Camden Tube Station, followed by performances from 1:15pm.
The CKO has been formed as part of a campaign of constructive opposition to Camden Borough Council’s appalling plans to licence busking and to threaten street musicians with the seizure of their equipment, £1000 fines and the sale of musical instruments to pay the fines.
Following on from the success of the inaugural street performance of the Citizen’s Kazoo Orchestra, we are ready for our second outing. We are looking for new members. Everybody is welcome to join regardless of background, or even, musical ability. All we ask is for enthusiasm and the desire to kazoo.
It should be a brilliant afternoon of performance and protest. If you don’t believe me, check out John playing the guitar wrong better than anyone has ever played the guitar wrong before.
See you there with your kazoo (or whatever else you want to bring along!)
